I’m truly honoured to be part of the inaugural Ocean River Paddling Symposium this April in Port Renfrew, BC. Ocean River has supported my work for more than fifteen years, not only by providing quality gear, but by standing behind the smaller events and clinics that help strengthen our paddling community. Their commitment to fostering growth at every level of the sport has made a lasting impact on my journey.
What sets Ocean River apart is its leadership and legacy. Founder Brian Henry (the big kahuna) has long been a respected figure in the kayak industry and is one of the original creators of Current Designs Kayaks. His vision helped shape what has become Vancouver Island’s leading kayak store, introducing countless paddlers to the water and contributing significantly to the growth of the sport. Over the years, many well known professionals in our industry have been part of the Ocean River team. Today, located in Oak Bay Marina, Ocean River continues to uphold its reputation for excellence, with co owner Jamie and the team offering knowledgeable guidance and outstanding service.
While the Ocean River Symposium is now full, there is still an opportunity to join us at Ukee Greenland Weekend in Ucluelet three months later. This immersive gathering focuses on traditional Greenland paddling skills, from rolling and foundational strokes to rough water play and kayak surfing.
