3 Nights & 2 Full Days of Rough-Water Paddling on the West Coast of Vancouver Island!

Get ready for an unforgettable weekend of adventure at the Ukee Rough Water Sea Kayak Weekend, a premier event for thrill-seeking paddlers! Set against the stunning coastal backdrop of Ucluelet, BC, this action-packed experience features kayak surfing, rough-water rolling, and dynamic coastal paddling.

This event welcomes both Euro-blade and Greenland paddlers, with the majority of instruction focused on Euro-blade techniques. Learn from an exceptional lineup of internationally recognized instructors who will help you develop the skills and confidence to paddle safely and powerfully in challenging conditions.

Group Meals at the Manke Kayak Workshop

This year, we’re excited to include two group dinners in your registration cost! These shared meals are a great chance to come together, celebrate the day’s adventures, and nerd out about kayaking even more than we already do. Saturday will be a chef prepared meal and Sunday will be Backyard Smash Burgers (hugely popular last year).

You’ll be responsible for your own breakfasts and lunches. We recommend packing a lunch for the Saturday and Sunday workshops, as you won’t be leaving the venue during the day.

Timing & Conditions
Late August often brings lively, choppy waters to Vancouver Island’s outer coast, energetic enough for a challenge, yet far from the massive winter swells. The Ucluelet area offers an ideal balance of excitement and safety, giving participants the opportunity to push their limits without exceeding their comfort zones.

Community & Camping
Your registration includes shared camping at the Ucluelet Campground, creating a fun, community-oriented atmosphere where you can connect with fellow paddlers, share stories, and forge lasting friendships around the campfire.

Whether you’re looking to refine your technique, test your limits, or simply embrace the thrill of rough-water paddling, the Ukee Rough Water Sea Kayak Weekend delivers the ultimate coastal adventure for intermediate to advanced paddlers.

Frequently Asked Questions

⭐️ I'm a beginner paddler, is the event something I can attend?

Unfortunately no, this event is more in-line for paddlers with some experience. You don't necessarily need rough water experience but have basic rescue skills is essential.

⭐️ I have a lot of experience in rough water already. Is this event going to add any value to me?

Absolutely! This event is geared around those who have some experience and want to develop a greater understanding of how to paddle in rough water conditions.

⭐️ What does shared camping mean?

We allocated 3 people per campsite, generally two tents per campsite is our goal. Be mindful of the size of your tent in this case.

⭐️ Rough Water in August? Will the conditions be big enough to challenge my skills?

The graveyard of the pacific area can offer some challenging conditions for the best of paddlers even in more mild conditions. The best way to learn rough water paddling is in conditions that are more manageable rather than conditions that take us far outside our comfort zone. This event is focused on learning not surviving to tell the tail!
