OPP Private Group Workshop

Learn and refine your kayak skills with James Manke on Vancouver Island this summer! Located in Ucluelet, Manke at the Wreckage (a kayak museum and hub) will be the host for your custom group event. Friday evening the event starts with a short presentation where full location and weather details for your weekend will be explained. Saturday mornings course will be on Greenland paddle strokes where students refine a traditional stroke and learn various blended strokes. During the afternoon James will  prepare a land breakdown of the layback roll followed by in water instruction where we work as pairs. The focus will be on providing tools that students can leave with to progress their rolling. Saturday evening a short kayak movie will be held at the Wreckage. Sunday will be a Coastal paddle in a sheltered area with low swell or an area the group as a whole can agree on. The afternoon is then spent on a beautiful little protected cove where students refine any rolls or suggested techniques including forward finish rolling for those interested. A group dinner can be arranged for Sunday evening and you would then depart Monday morning. 

Your Event Itinerary (Specific times and locations will be provided to you before the event)

• Day 1 (Friday) - Late afternoon arrival & check in.
• Day 1 Evening - 1 hour Introduction at the Wreckage with short presentation
• Day 2 (6 hours instruction) - Kayak Rolling and Greenland paddle strokes
• We will focus on layback rolling fundamentals providing tools to help with rolling progression. Greenland strokes will include a traditional low angle stroke as well as various blended strokes to allow stability.
• Day 2 Evening - Short movie with popcorn followed by a kayak surfing discussion breakdown for the following day 
• Day 3 (2 hour paddle / 2 hour tune up)- Pacific coast paddle followed by skills tune up
• This will be an opportunity to work on whatever skills each participant would like while having a watchful eye from your instructor. 
• Day 3 Evening - Group dinner at local restaurant 
• Day 4 (Monday) - Checkout & Depart
